Supplements or not?

June 28, 2012

If we were to go by what self-made dieticians and other such advisors tell us, then we would never eat cooked food. We would live like the guys before homosapiens did; i.e. keeping it raw and cold. But then again, we have another group of people telling us that eating raw food could cause us more health problems e.g. bacterial infections, the existence of worms, etc. Scary! Speaking of raw food, can you imagine chewing raw beef, just because you want to get all the proteins before they are killed by heat?

I guess that's why many people have opted to go the Food Supplements route, though some still do not understand how this works. The word “supplement” means something added. In this case, you’re “adding” to a basic healthy diet and lifestyle, or to a prescription medication or therapy to treat an existing condition. I said some still don't get how this works because they think that a herbal supplement or a vitamin regimen on its own will cure or treat an existing condition or heath problem. Nooo! they are called supplements for a reason; they do not replace your diet, or medication, they just complement it!

Who can benefit from supplements?

  • Women of childbearing age (obiously they need extra calcium and iron considering they loose alot of it every month)
  • Pregnant or lactating women
  • Children and teenagers with irregular eating habits
  • Senior citizens
  • Dieters or people avoiding certain food groups (This avoidance may cause deficiency in key nutrients)
  • People with eating disorders or medical conditions (deficiency diseases, absorption problems, lactose intolerance, etc.)
  • People who often eat processed and fast food
Before you decide to take a dietary supplement, ask yourself:
  • Do I need this supplement?
  • Do I know that this supplement is safe?
  • Does this supplement interact with any drug or food I am consuming?
  • Do I know that this supplement works?
  • Can I afford this supplement?
  • Do I know enough about this supplement?

Have I ever found myself needing supplements? The answer is yes - the photo showing above is an example of one of the supplements I have been using over the years from GNLD

Do feel free to Contact me for more details on GNLD Products. I can vouch for their products any time, and if you need them I can get them for you or advice you on how you can get them.
