Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus

February 28, 2013

Haven't read the book but I intend to get an e-copy of Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus soon…. All the same, when I look at the title I guess the writer must have been as confused as I am at some of the differences between Men and Women; and I don't just mean the physically visible biological differences. This has led me to thinking back to the time when God was creating the world. Well, forgive me for not agreeing with the evolvement theories taught to us in school. If they were true, how come we don't evolve anymore? Anyway, sorry, I digress.....

As I was saying, the difference between the sexes takes me back to the creation of mankind. When God was creating Adam, He did it after creating everything else; that is after separating the dry land from the water and the skies from the earth, and after creating all the animals and plants, etc. Then He created the first man (Was he tall, dark and handsome?) and placed him on earth. But after a while, He, God, looked at the man and saw that he was lonely, so God decided to create a being that would help alleviate the man's loneliness.

He put the man to sleep, removed one of his ribs, did his magic and voila, a masterpiece was created. When Adam woke up, his eyes were drawn to the unique creature God had placed in his line of vision. The first words that came out of Adam's mouth were...."Flesh of my flesh, bone of my bones. She shall be called woman..." I can almost visualize him ogling (like the rest of the male species do anyway) at this interesting creation, wanting to touch her soft tender skin to confirm he wasn't hallucinating.

In my view, I guess after a while he lost interest in her (again, like most men do) and as a result, she had enough time to walk around in the garden of Eden without Adam, and that's when she met the smooth dude called Serpent. Known for his lying mastery it was quite easy for him to convince her to eat from the one tree they had been asked not to eat from. And she being the loving and caring woman she was, she didn't want to eat alone; she shared the fruit with her man. Well, this is my version of the story and I'm sticking to it!

Of course after this we know the blame game started and no one was willing to admit or take responsibility for their actions. When Adam was asked why he ate the fruit, he pointed to the woman, who when asked the same question blamed the Serpent. And as we know, God reprimanded all the three heavily, each one being given a lifetime punishment that was not transferable to anyone else. You can read the whole un-paraphrased story in Genesis chapter three (3).

I’ve been thinking about this whole creation story for several weeks now, having been triggered by some of the things I have been hearing Maina Kageni of Classic 105 talking about in the morning on his segment, Maina in The Morning. Check #MITM on Twitter and you’ll understand what I mean. The one question I have been asking myself is this: is this what God had in mind when He created Man and later the Woman?

I have attempted to answer this question in my own way, based on three questions I asked myself in relation to the creation story as follows:

  • Why did God make the man sleep?

I've always asked myself why God decided to give Adam a blackout, and yet, He had the ability to just tell a rib to simply detach itself from Adam’s rib-cage and fall into His hand. After giving this a lot of thought, I came to the conclusion that His reason for knocking Adam out is not so much so that he could perform "the operation", but so that Adam would not know or see what God was doing, until He was done.

I believe there was a special component God used to create the woman, a component that made her a mystery to the man. A component that He knew would drive the man insane if He tried to work around it by himself without asking God’s help. The same component that makes Men go around saying they do not understand women. Well, I guess God's plan was to make sure that a man never understands a woman just by looking at her or spending a few minutes daily with her.

As a man, you need the manufacturer's manual (Bible) in order to understand this product called "Woman". (But then again, we all know men love reading manuals, don’t they?) Anyway, if you still can't understand the woman after reading the manual, then you should talk to the manufacturer himself. Unfortunately, majority of men lack the great virtue called patience; they have no time and no interest in reading manuals; after all, do men ever read manuals or ask directions? (Stereotype right there; I know, but I just can’t help myself!)

  • Why did he create One man and One woman?

The other thing that came out clearly in my mind is that when God was creating a helper for Adam, He created one woman; EVE. He did not create Elizabeth and Eunice as well; He only created one woman. I'm sure if God had intended for man to have more than one woman at any given time, He would have created a few others after Eve, before waking Adam up. To the men out there who insist on having a wife and several mistresses, do you think God was visionless when He was creating just ONE woman for Adam? And you wonder why you have issues from here to planet Mars with all the woman you string around in your life, especially now that cheating has been made easier for you, thanks to technology…. SHINDWE!

Unfortunately though, even women themselves do not have a sense of pride and decency any more. A woman will know fully well that the man she is going out with is married, or is in a serious relationship, but she will feel no qualms whatsoever in trying to fit herself into the mix, allowing herself to be used by the man like a garbage dumping site! In the end, who is fooling who? Do you (the other woman) think the man will dump his wife for you? Wake up, smell the coffee and move on woman. You are just a side-show for the dude.

To all who do this, (both men and women) shame on you!

To the man:  go back to the garden of Eden and find a way of understanding your wife so that you can love her and love on her always without being tempted by what society is providing.

To the woman: please stop conversing with the Serpent and go find your Adam where you left him.

  • Adam and Steve or Eve & Bev?

I don’t mean to judge anyone, but I do believe that if God had wanted mankind to engage in non-heterosexual relationships, He would have created Adam & Steve or Eve & Bev. The fact that He created Adam & Eve meant he had created each one in a way that when they two met, they would instantly complete and complement each other. That's why He gave a woman the reproductive system but He made sure she could only conceive by sleeping with the man, not a woman. Like I said, I'm not here to judge anyone but besides the practical signs given to us by God  (through creation) on His stand about same sex relationships, can anyone show me where the Bible or any other spiritual book condones this?

In a nutshell, if you are a man stop complaining to your buddies about how you don't understand WOMEN. You have no business trying to understand the whole female fraternity; spend more time trying to understand the one who is legally and legitimately yours; remember, only SHE came from your rib. Take time with her with a deliberate intention of learning her and as you do, you will discover the "hidden treasures" that were put in her while you were blacked out. The more you desire to learn and understand her, the more pleasant surprises you will get from her. Most importantly, you will get to know her language of love and that will be the key to unlocking your relationship and taking it to the next level.

As for women, stop spending time with the Serpents of this world; Go back and look for your Adam where you left him, and if you haven’t met him yet, then you could be looking for him under the wrong tree. Women are like padlocks; you cannot insert just any key to open it. It has to be the actual key that was designed for that padlock; any other key is just a "Quick Fix". Unfortunately most "padlocks" have allowed themselves to be opened by all manner of keys, including master keys. The goodness is, life comes with a second chance.

Remember, it was Adam and Eve, and not Adam, Eve, Eunice and Elizabeth.

Glory to God for this awesome, thought provoking and insightful piece. I have always wondered why the man was made to 'fall into a deep sleep'. It could also explain the later consequence when man could make irrational and not well thought decisions under the influence of 'woman'. But all in all, our God is a God of mystery and only those who are near Him get to know His Secret (Psalm 25:14).

With regards to God's original plan, It took a rib to create a woman for man! My mother told me once that for every man there is a woman, and for every woman, there is a rib. I still meditate on this precept to date. If God were to include Elizabeth and Eunice, besides Eve; man would crumble! it would cost both man and God alot of precious ribs! Man would literally not be able to breathe! Remember its the rib cage that makes us breathe well as well as secure our internal organs. Thus with one woman, God was also looking at the security factor! God indeed is infinte in Wisdom! Thats why God warns us in (Pro 31:3) Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.

William Blake said: 'The Naked woman's body is a portion of eternity too great for the eye of man'

Meditate on that!

God Bless You for this enlightening piece.

Wow! Thanks David for reading and sharing your thoughts too. I love what your Mother said because then this thing of people saying there is not enough men for all the women in the world is nullified right there.

God bless you as always for been a loyal reader and follower.

as usual, Liz, an insightful and beautiful read!!...and your random thoughts are hilarious!! Go girl!!

Thank you Nyakio..... to get such accolades from a seasoned blogger like yourself means alot to me. Thank you so much and God bless you.

Hope you share.

What a great piece of write up Liz. I salute your courage in writing this piece. There has been a lot of compromise in the marriage institution. Different people have come up with different ideas as to how marriage should be but the fact still remains that God instituted marriage not man or any human government. And only God knows how to guide us to a successful marriage. Unfortunately, His guiding principles are considered these days as outdated by so many and the result is divorces and marital problems.

I am a married man and I know that some of the problems most married face is because they under-use their wives. Any man that takes his "wife" lightly is the greatest fool ever (sorry about the language). Adam was in the most perfect state any man could ever be. He could name all the animals without any problems (talk of a professor of zoology), he could tend a garden that is bigger than some countries (there were four rivers - pison, behind, hiddekel and euphrates, running through the garden. This was no small garden - Genesis 2). With all the super strength and wisdom, he still needed a "helpmeet" by God's judgement. In our current state of imperfection, we don't need anything less. A wife is a part of any man's God given destiny. But we must appreciate our wives as Adam did to Eve. Our wives must also carry themselves as queens which they are. The price of a virtuous woman is indeed above all gems. I thank God for godly women. They are indeed blessings to us.

Great job Liz. Keep it up.

Thank you very much Idong, first for reading the article, then for taking the time to contribute to this post. The view you've given is very thought provoking and hopefully, all who read the post and the comments will have alot to digest.

Once again, thank you and God bless you.
